I had a fabulous trip to Philadelphia for the West Prize show. Paige West is so passionate about collecting and promoting contemporary art and also introducing it to a wider audience, so I am thrilled to be part of the collection. It was great to meet her and Lee Stoetzel, the director of the Collection, and get a tour of the collection installed at SEI. They will be launching the next West Prize competition in May so check the website then for details to enter.
I was also excited to visit Longwood Gardens to shoot some photographs. Stay tuned for images to appear in my work soon!
My friend from New York joined me for the weekend and we had fun walking everywhere and sightseeing and art viewing including the "Cezanne and Beyond" show at PMA, George Tooker exhibit at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and visiting the Institute of Contemporary Art. Of note at the ICA was the Joshua Mosley: dread exhibit. I was really intrigued with the animated video presented in black and white on a really large screen. We also checked out Pentimenti gallery where I had been in a group show in 2007, in Old City which has lots of fun shops and galleries.
We even got a little snow on Sunday morning which is always fun for those of us living in California, although I just managed to fly out that evening (with only a 90 minute delay and about an hour of turbulence) before the big snowstorm hit the east coast!
